On September 27, 1981, Mercy Flight flew its first mission from Children's Hospital in Buffalo to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville. A newborn baby was transported for "convalescent care" for continuing care in the community closer to the infant's family! Since then, Mercy Flight has flown more than 14,500 patient missions, as well as countless community education and training missions throughout Western New York.
In situations when minutes matter, it is our goal at Mercy Flight to provide fast, safe, and cost-effective air-medical emergency services. Time and time again Mercy Flight fulfills that life-saving goal by responding to over 600 critically ill and injured people each year.
